The University of Minnesota star and St. Paul native is the only athlete to be drafted by four professional sports leagues, according to a news release. He spent 22 years in the major leagues. In 1992, he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays as they won the World Series. He collected his 3,000th hit in 1993 as a member of the Minnesota Twins. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2001. He now works for ESPN.
The banquet includes dinner. A variety of awards will be presented to local Boys & Girls Club youth, staffers and supporters. Doors to the annual fundraiser banquet, at the Ramkota Inn Convention Center, open at 5:30 p.m. The program begins at 6:30 p.m.
