CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues sits down with Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, Los Angeles Sparks Forward Candace Parker, and former NBA star Charles Smith to discuss how George Floyd’s death sparked a social justice movement in sports. Athletes are using their power and influence to mobilize fans. Is this a positive development for major league sports or should the stars just “shut up and dribble?”

Be part of this fascinating conversation that goes beyond the sports arena and into the heart of American culture.

Dave Winfield’s career is a unique chapter in American sports history. Hailed as one of the greatest athletes ever to play professional sports, he is one of only seven players in the history of Major League Baseball to reach over 3,000 hits and over 450 home runs. The 12-time All-Star is among the all-time leaders in hits, home runs and RBI’s. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001 — his first year of eligibility.

Charles Smith is a retired professional power forward in the NBA. Smith attended the University of Pittsburgh where was named Big East Player of the Year. The Philadelphia 76ers selected Smith as the third overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft, but immediately traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers. During his rookie season, Smith was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Smith was traded to the New York Knicks in 1992 and remained there until 1996. He spent the 1996-97 season with the San Antonio Spurs before retiring in 1997.

Candace Parker is one of the most decorated female basketball players to ever put on a uniform. As the youngest of Larry and Sara Parker’s three children, Candace grew up with two older brothers, Marcus and former NBA player Anthony, and fell in love with the game of basketball at an early age. Candace, the first overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, is more than just a star on the court; she is an inspiration to all those around her. A WNBA Champion, WNBA Finals MVP, two time WNBA MVP, two time Gold Medalist, and WNBA Rookie of the Year, are just a few of Candace’s many accomplishments. Off the court, Candace is mother to 8-year-old daughter Lailaa, is a renowned broadcaster, and inspiring role model for young women everywhere.
